Westerly — Firefighters from Westerly and Pawcatuck are battling a fire tonight in a three-story apartment house at 51 Granite St.

The road was closed in the vicinity of Rocket Street as firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze which began at 8:40 p.m.

A woman, who identified herself as Jamie and said she lived on the third floor of the apartment house, said the building contained three apartments and everyone who lived there was either not home or escaped the blaze without injury.

"I smelled smoke, grabbed my cat and my kids and got out of there," she said.
