Tremors from southern Maine quake felt locally

An earthquake Tuesday night in southern Maine caused tremors down the New England coast and even rumbled about 200 miles south to eastern Connecticut.

The 4.0 magnitude quake caused "30 seconds of vibrating, like a vibrating bed, not really hard" felt by Charles Forshaw in his Quaker Hill home.

"When it lasts longer than a few seconds, you know what they are," he said. "Everything was shaking like when a big truck goes by, or a train.

No damage or injuries were caused by the quake, which was centered 3 miles west of Hollis Center, Maine, was about 3 miles deep and struck around 7:12 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Groton Town police confirmed calls from residents who had "houses shaking" and New London police, too, had calls about the quake.
