Norwich – A public informational meeting will be held Saturday on the proposed $8 million natural gas-line expansion project that will be put to voters in a Nov. 6 referendum.

The session, sponsored by the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Dime Bank community room, 290 Salem Turnpike.

NPU spokesman Michael Hughes will explain the project and answer questions on the proposed gas line expansion project.

Although the referendum question asks voters to support an $8 million bond to expand natural gas lines to areas of the city not yet served, the project would not cost city taxpayers or current gas ratepayers any additional money. The project would be funded through the new revenues from the new customers who agree to hook into the line.

The line would only be installed in neighborhoods where enough residents or businesses have agreed ahead of time to hook into the service, NPU officials said.
