New London police announce public online reporting option

New London – The general public can now use an online police reporting tool for certain types of crimes and issues, the police department announced Friday.

Things like minor theft, lost property, vandalism or burglary from a vehicle can now be reported online, at a time best for the person submitting the claim, “without having to wait for an officer to respond or call them back,” Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a statement.

Once filed, a temporary copy of the report will immediately be available to print. Once reviewed and approved by police, the person who filed the report will receive an emailed copy of it, Reichard said.

“The report will transfer into the New London Police Departments records management system allowing statistical analysis ability as if the report had been filed by a police officer,” he said. “This web based reporting option will allow officers more time to address community needs while keeping pace with the public expectancy to complete services via the internet.”

Reichard said the online program was purchased using grant money from the Justice Assistance Program. Users can find the reporting service at the following websites:
