The Waterford East Lyme Shellfish Commission announced this week that the Niantic River will open for scalloping on November 15.
Permits are required. Only adults with a clearly defined growth ring may be harvested. Shellfish wardens will be enforcing the clearly defined growth ring as the harvest size, and people harvesting scallops are advised to use the 2.5-inch size as a guideline only. Wardens will be making handouts available to further explain the regulations.
