North Stonington Elementary School was selected as one of three finalists for the best elementary schools in Connecticut by the Connecticut Association of Schools. Although they did not win the award for the top school, they did receive the CAS School Climate Award.

Wheeler High School ranked number two out of nine comparable area high schools in regards to SAT scores.

This is of no surprise to those of us who have children enrolled in this wonderful school district. Our teachers and administration are top notch. It is no accident that our children are flourishing. They are receiving a top quality education.

For some reason, though, we are having a difficult time passing our education budget. At just a .12 percent increase, our proposed budget needs the support of all residents. Please vote at the referendum Oct. 22 at Town Hall. Polling hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Our children have worked hard. Our teachers, many of whom take money out of their own pockets to pay for classroom supplies, have worked hard. We owe them our support.

You need not be registered to vote at this referendum. If you pay taxes on property worth $1,000 or more, you can vote.

No excuses. Our kids need us.
