New London - Fourth-grade students from Lillie B. Haynes Elementary School in East Lyme took to the track at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London Monday for the one-mile run portion of their state physical fitness assessment.

Students in even-numbered grades starting with the fourth grade participated in a four-part fitness assessment including push-ups, curl-ups, flexibility and the run.

The East Lyme students would normally do their run on the high school track but because that facility is undergoing construction, the academy made its track available.
