Norwich – Republican Mayor Peter Nystrom announced his endorsement of Republican candidate Mikel Middleton for the 46th District House seat Nystrom had held for 18 years.

Nystrom said Middleton's commitment to Norwich has been shown by his active role as a citizen of Norwich. Middleton is a U.S. Navy veteran, Justice of the Peace, member of the Mohegan Park Advisory Board and secretary of the Norwich Republican Town Committee.

Middleton faces Democratic candidate Emmett Riley for the seat being vacated by incumbent Democrat Melissa Riley, Emmett Riley’s wife. The district covers the southern and urban sections of Norwich.

Both U.S. Senate candidates have stated their commitment to generating economic growth in Connecticut. How much impact do you think a senator realistically has on the local economy?
Not much, this is all campaign rhetoric.
A senator can have a huge impact by securing grants and government contracts, as well as advocating for larger reforms.
I wouldn't say senators have no impact, but their influence is very limited.
