Ledyard athletic program honored by CIAC

Ledyard High School was one of 18 athletic programs selected as CIAC Michael's Achievement Cup exemplary programs on Tuesday.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement as overall athletic programs for the 2011-12 academic year and is based on achievement in sportsmanship, participation, athletic scholarship, athletic personnel, equity, chemical free initiatives and athletic achievement.

The winners, by class, were: Class LL - Fairfield Ludlow, Glastonbury; Class L - Avon, Darien; Class MM - Brookfield, Foran, Joel Barlow, Ledyard; Class M - Haddam-Killingworth, Weston, Woodland; Class SS - East Hampton, Northwest Catholic, Valley Regional; Class S - Gilbert, Notre Dame-Fairfield, Wamogo, Westbrook.

One school from each class will be a finalist for the overall Michael's Achievement Cup recipient, which will be announced on Nov. 15 when all 18 school are recognized during the CIAC Sportsmanship Conference at the AquaTurf in Southington.
