Police, using dogs and helicopter, find missing Waterford man
Waterford — A state police dog located a missing elderly man in a densely wooded area early Thursday.
Waterford police were notified at about 6 p.m. Wednesday that Shepard K. Linscott, 83, had left his 9th Street residence an hour earlier for his daily walk and had failed to return. Family members reported that the man suffered from medical issues and had been gone for more than two hours.
At about 12:45 a.m., a state police K-9 team located Linscott after being guided through a swampy area by illumination from the state police helicopter Trooper 1. The man was conscious and alert. He was carried from the woods by rescuers and taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
An initial search was conducted by first responders from the Waterford Police Department and Oswagatchie Fire Department using ATVs and boats. The state police helicopter searched from the air, using its thermal imaging device.
