James Streeter Groton
Publication: The Day
For the most part, until recently when the Democrats took control of both the state House of Representatives and Senate, our elected state legislators paid attention to the desires and needs of the municipalities and the voters in our District.
The present legislators representing Groton have lost touch with their constituents. As an example, a few months ago, Reps. Ted Moukawsher and Elissa Wright asked members of the Groton Town Council what they could do to assist Groton in their quest to hold the line on budgetary spending. Councilors insisted that they stop voting in favor of legislation that included passing along unfunded mandated costs to municipalities.
Unfortunately, the council's requests fell on deaf ears and our legislators returned to Hartford and voted along party lines for legislation that included additional unfunded mandates.
Groton's state legislators appear to be self serving and no longer represent the best interests of our community. It's time to clean house and replace them with people who care about Groton.
Three well qualified candidates who fit this bill are Andrew Lavery and Harry Watson for state representative and Theresa Madonna for state Senate. They will serve us well.

Both U.S. Senate candidates have stated their commitment to generating economic growth in Connecticut. How much impact do you think a senator realistically has on the local economy?
