Groton - Several Groton businesses have joined in an effort to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island, N.Y. which was devastated by flood waters.
Bethany Silvia and Rich Hurne, co-owners of Rich's Service Center on Poquonnock Road in Groton, are collecting donations of cash, clothing and food from individuals and businesses.
Silvia said they are working with Colton Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Landscaping and Lawn Care in Groton, to form a caravan of trucks and deliver the good to New York this weekend.
She said victims are in need of things like winter clothing, baby food, water and non-perishable food items.
Donations are being accepted at the service station, at 84 Poquonnock Road, through Saturday. Shop hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 860-446-8851 for more information.
