Salem — The town’s parent teacher organization is looking for volunteers to help unload and install new playground equipment Nov. 15-17 at the Salem School.
The new playground will include two structures and wellness equipment that is designed to use total body strength. The three-day build is the culmination of months of planning and fundraising by the PTO.
“There’s so much energy and excitement over the whole playground,” PTO President Athena Sartori said. “The kids are excited and the administration is all for it. I can’t wait to see it done.”
The PTO raised about $46,000 for the project, Sartori said. It organized an Oct. 1 golf tournament at Great Neck Country Club that raised about $12,000.
Sartori said the group saved about 30 percent on the project by agreeing to find volunteers to unload and assemble the equipment. The Board of Education recently voted to approve plans for the playground.
To volunteer in the build, contact Sartori at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (860) 460-5113. Eight volunteers are needed at 4 p.m. Nov. 15 to unload equipment.
Organizers are also looking for 20 volunteers at 8 a.m. Nov. 16, and 40 volunteers at 7 a.m. Nov. 17. Volunteers will help unpack and build the equipment. Coffee and donuts will be served at the builds on Friday and Saturday.
