Preston — The kitchen of a home at 578 Route 165 was heavily damaged by fire late Saturday afternoon, but firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 15 minutes and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the house.
Town Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Tom Casey said one resident was home at the time and got out safely. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, but the fire is still under investigation, he said.
Preston City and Poquetanuck fire departments responded to the fire.
