Ledyard – It was a script fitting the uniqueness of the entire production.
New London High School quarterback Ackee Barber, a transfer from Ledyard, entered the game in the third period and threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Jose Garcia, leading the Whalers to a 7-0 victory over Ledyard at Mignault Field on Saturday.
Barber was thought to be out for the game, sustaining a hip pointer on Friday.
New London is 7-2 and on pace to make the state playoffs. Ledyard (6-3) has faint hopes.
The game also commenced with all the trimmings: crisp, autumn air, a big-game feel … and also several cameras and two broadcast truck for the Saturday Morning Showdown, the latest rendition of the Ledyard-New London football rivalry.
The game streamed live on theday.com and was directed and produced by the same crew who will do the same job Sunday for the Bills-Patriots game in Foxboro.
The game will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday on theday.com.
