Montville - The town's social services department is looking for donations of turkeys, nonperishable food and canned goods in the coming weeks to service the needy during the winter.
The department's food reserves were depleted during Hurricane Sandy and the days after the storm, according to Kathleen Doherty-Peck, the town's senior and social services director.
Peck said the department tries to collect 350 turkeys to distribute each Thanksgiving. The social services department also holds a Thanksgiving dinner each year for the needy.
Donations can be made at the town's social services department at 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike or at the senior center at 12 Maple Ave.
For more information, contact the social services department at (860) 848-8820.
