Montville public safety building ahead of schedule

Montville — The town anticipates construction work to be completed by the end of the month on the new public safety building.

Town Planner Marcia Vlaun reported Wednesday night at a Town Council meeting that the project is ahead of schedule. It had an initial completion date of Feb. 1, 2013, but Vlaun said she now expects the building to officially go online in mid-January.

The new building will house the town's police department, a new lockup, a state-of-the-art dispatch center and other public safety services. The town will begin transition meetings and other training so that the police department's move to the new facility will go smoothly.

Voters approved $6.5 million for the project at 911 Norwich-New London Turnpike. Vlaun said she anticipates the Public Safety Building Committee will set a date for an open house in early January so that the public can visit the building.
