Two Stonington volunteers are honored by Special Olympics Connecticut

Special Olympics Connecticut has honored two Stonington residents with its 2012 President's Awards.

During a reception at the Mohegan Sun on Nov. 10, volunteers Kathy Conger and Tom Kollar were honored along with four businesses and athlete Lonnie Braxton.

Conger, who has volunteered with Special Olympics Connecticut for the last five years, is the co-director of the croquet competition at the Ocean House in Westerly during the Fall Sports Festival. More than 60 athletes participated in the competition and she is responsible for recruiting volunteers from the Stonington and Mystic area.

Kollar, is the co-director of volunteers for Special Olympics croquet. He is in charge of the official database to ensure new officials are trained by members of the United States Croquet Association. He also oversees support services and logistics at the croquet competition. Also honored were the Mohegan tribe, Coca-Cola, ConnectiCare and TD Bank.
