Stonington - Marci Alborghetti, the author of "The Christmas Glass," will read from the book and sign copies on Friday, Dec. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the La Grua Center in the borough. The event had originally been slated to be held in the days after Hurricane Sandy.

"The Christmas Glass," which was published in 2009, is set partly in the borough and southeastern Connecticut.

The story involves Anna, a young widow who runs a small Italian orphanage that shelters Jewish children during World War II. Fearful that the fascists will destroy the dozen handmade glass ornaments her mother gave her in retaliation for housing the children, Anna sends them to a cousin who moves to the United States at the end of the war. Over the years, the ornaments are passed around to 12 different people. In 2000, as a way to bring the family back together, the cousin demands the ornaments be returned during a holiday reunion.

The event is free and open to the public.
