State police announced the results Monday of their stepped-up holiday enforcement effort in which additional troopers were assigned to target problems such as driving under the influence and aggressive driving.
From midnight Wednesday to midnight Sunday, state police made 62 arrests for drunken driving, issued 1,611 speeding tickets, 85 citations for not wearing a seat belt and issued 3,041 moving violations for offenses such as making an unsafe lane change, following too closely, failure to signal and using a cellphone while driving.
They also investigated 410 accidents, including 59 with injury and three fatal crashes in Southington, Beacon Falls and North Haven. They also responded to 10,469 calls for service.
During the same period last year, state police made 65 drunken driving arrests, issued 1,376 speeding tickets, 417 seat belt violations and 2,745 moving violations. Last year, there were 389 accidents with two fatalities.
