"It's A Wonderful Life - A Live Radio Play" is exactly what is sounds like: a live production, as if done on the radio, of the holiday classic.

The Granite Theatre will stage the piece, adapted by Joe Landry, starting Friday.

George Bailey's discovery that, had he never been born, many people would have been worse off, is performed here as if it were a 1940s radio broadcast. That means a group of actors voice the familiar characters, a Foley artist makes all the necessary sound effects, and old-time radio commecials pop up between scenes.

Starring in the production are Sonny Dufault, Bill Martuscello, Valerie Remillard Myette, Danielle Conti, John Stockwell Payne, John Cillino, Maria Martuscello, Santino Vernieri, Beth Jepson and David Jepson, who also directs.

"It's A Wonderful Life - A Live Radio Play," Granite Theatre, 1 Granite St., Westerly; opens Friday and runs through Dec. 23; 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 2 p.m. Sun.; $19, $16 for ages 62 and older, $12 for kids 12 and under; (401) 596-2341,
