Gold Star Mother Kathryn T. Cross of Glastonbury shakes hands with members of the Patriot Guard Riders Tuesday before a wreath-laying ceremony held at the Old Saybrook Town Green War Memorial, one of the stops by "Wreaths Across America," accompanied by the riders, while on its way to Arlington National Cemetery. Wreaths will be placed on the graves of thousands of soldiers at Arlington. Local veterans, the VFW, American Legion, townspeople and the Old Saybrook police and fire departments attended the ceremony. The wreath tradition started in 1992 by Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreaths in Maine. The mission's theme is "Remember, Honor and Teach" the value of freedom in today's world. Cross placed one of two wreaths on the memorials during Tuesday's ceremony.
