Norwich — Police Thursday were investigating the “untimely” death of an infant at the Thames River Family Program at 1 Thames River Place.

Lt. Mark Rankowitz said the death, reported at 6:49 a.m., did not appear to be suspicious.

The Thames River Family Program is a transitional living facility for mothers with children under age 12.

Two Norwich police cruisers were parked outside the building Thursday. Mothers who were playing with their children in the playground said they were not aware that an incident had occurred.

Thomas Hyland, executive director of Thames River Community Service Inc., could not be reached to comment.
