Norwich police seize 200 bags of heroin

Norwich — Police said they seized 200 bags of heroin and other drugs Friday afternoon as they executed a search warrant at the home of a 33-year-old city man.

Derrick Helme, of 66 Oakwood Knoll, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with a police officer.

Police said they also uncovered small amounts of marijuana and synthetic marijuana in addition to drug paraphernalia and $450 in cash.

Helme was held on a $100,000 bond and will be arraigned next Thursday in Norwich Superior Court. He was also charged with two counts of sale of heroin and was additionally held on a $250,000 bond.
