East Lyme – Police said an armed suspect robbed the Liberty Bank on Flanders Road Friday afternoon.

The robbery may be connected to other bank thefts in the area over the last several months, said Sgt. William Bundy, of the state police Eastern District Major Crime Squad. No injuries were reported.

The 5-foot-3-inch tall, Caucasian suspect fled on foot around 5:50 p.m. after brandishing a dark-colored handgun and demanding and receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, Bundy said. A K-9 unit was called in, but the track "terminated along Flanders Road," Bundy said.

The suspect had a mustache, Bundy said, and wore a dark coat, sunglasses and a hat with a blue stripe. Bundy said officers from the Troop F barracks in Westbrook, the FBI office in New Haven, East Lyme police and Resident State Trooper Sgt. Wilfred Blanchette III are assisting in the investigation.
