New London - The next workshop in the process of creating an urban village at the Hodges Square Business District will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Polish American Veterans Club, 51 Central Ave.
Participants will discuss different types of governance, resources, finances and traffic, among other issues.
Landscape architect Brian Kent will address ways to make the area inviting and create a sense of place where people linger and relax. He will present conceptual plans exploring the potential of the Williams Street corridor from Connecticut College to the I-95 bridges and solicit input from workshop participants.
Art Costa and Jerry Sinnamon will address how the business community wants to create both short- and long-term initiatives for development. Participants will brainstorm the best way to launch one or more organizations responsible for proposing and overseeing business and public space improvements in northeast New London.
Creative Placemaking for Riverside Park neighborhood, which includes Hodges Square, is funded by a grant from the state Department of Economic and Community Development and Office of the Arts.
