Oldest case on the docket headed to trial

The oldest case on the docket in the New London major crimes court will go on trial Jan. 15 before Judge Arthur C. Hadden.

Richard K. Wallace was charged with first-degree larceny in August 2007. He is accused of stealing more than $125,000 from Dorothy DiNallo of Sprague, a one-time family friend.

Wallace notified the court this morning that he has chosen a court trial rather than a trial by jury. Hadden said he would listen to the evidence and render a verdict.

Wallace appeared in court dozens of times as his attorney, Donald R. Beebe, met with a prosecutor and judge in an attempt to resolve the case. At one point, Beebe said his client was going to make restitution even though he was admitting no wrongdoing.

DiNallo’s daughter, Candace DiNallo, has complained about the delays and has been in contact with victim advocates from the courts and the state Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities.
