Bulgarian poet Lyubomir Levchev is the winner of the 2013 William Meredith Award for Poetry. Today's announcement from the William Meredith Foundation coincides with what would have been Meredith's 95th birthday. A Montville resident, teacher and one-time U.S. Poet Laureate, Meredith inspired the foundation that bears his name to not only continue his legacy but also recognize excellence in poetry.
Levchev already has earned numerous accolades in his career including the French Academy's Gold Medal for Poetry. As part of the Meredith award, and in cooperation with New London's Little Red Tree Publishing, a new collection of Levchev's work will be released in April - National Poetry Month.
