EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (AP) — A young Connecticut couple will face a state judge after being charged with leaving a fake bomb outside East Hampton Middle School.
East Hampton residents Sean Doran and Kayla Sypek are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Middletown Superior Court on charges including reckless endangerment and threatening. Police say they also may face federal charges. Both are 20 years old.
Police say school custodians found what appeared to be a bomb with a timing device near the front doors Saturday morning while opening the school for a youth basketball league. But the state police bomb squad determined there were no explosives in the device.
Police say security video footage helped them identify the couple.
Doran and Sypek are being held on $100,000 bonds. It's not clear if they have lawyers.
