UPDATED: Police warn of slick road conditions

An overnight snowstorm is causing slick and slippery road conditions.

State and local police are reporting numerous spin outs and minor accidents. Snowplows are out and road conditions are expected to improve.

A car struck and snapped a telephone pole in the area Thames and Bridge streets in Groton. The accident was reported around 6:45 a.m.

Stonington police are reporting a downed utility pole after a car struck it in the area of North Main Street and Route 1. Minor injuries were reported in the 7:40 a.m. accident. A portion of Barnes Road, North Main Street and Route 1 was closed to traffic.

Norwich has issued a parking ban.

The National Weather Service is saying that shoreline towns can expect rain, freezing rain, and sleet before it becomes all rain after 2 p.m.

Inland towns can expect an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow during the daytime hours before it becomes all rain around 3 p.m.
