Stonington – Several more burglaries of unoccupied homes were reported Wednesday and Thursday, bringing to 11 the total number of break-ins here over the past eight days.
Burglaries were reported on South Broad Street, Washington Street and Hawley Street on Wednesday and Lathrop Avenue on Thursday.
Police said they are following up on leads in the case, some of which were called in by residents after police sent out an alert about the burglaries. All detectives are busy working on the case, and other officers have stepped up patrols of the areas where the burglaries occurred.
Police said Friday that the newly reported burglaries appear to have occurred about a week ago but were just reported when their owners returned home.
Earlier burglaries were reported in unoccupied homes near Pawcatuck Middle School and on upper Liberty Street, Courtland Street, Field Street and Lathrop Avenue.
The burglar or burglars forced their way inside and took household items, cash and valuables.
Police continue to ask residents to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity they see or have seen, even if it seems minor, to police at (860) 599-4411.
