Bus hits overpass in Boston, injuring passengers

Boston (AP) — Authorities say a charter bus carrying 42 passengers has struck a bridge in Boston, injuring several people.

The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday. The Boston Fire Department says on Twitter that the bus carrying 42 people was coming from Harvard University and was heading home to Pennsylvania when it struck an overpass in the Allston neighborhood.

Massachusetts State Police say the bus crashed into the Western Avenue Bridge on the east-bound side of Soldier's Field Road. They say on Twitter that the bus was too high for the roadway.

The Fire Department says some passengers are trapped. Photos on the department's website show firefighters lifting victims strapped to boards through the roof of the bus.
