About two dozen New London area residents, including 16 Connecticut College students, will be among Connecticut residents heading to Washington, D.C., this Sunday for the Forward on Climate rally.
The rally, which will take place at noon on the National Mall, is being organized by The Sierra Club, 350.org and the Hop-Hop Caucus. Diane Lentakis of Milford, a member of both the Sierra Club and 350.org, is organizing two busloads of state residents and a third may be reserved if enough people sign up, she said Tuesday.
The buses will leave Hartford at 4 a.m. Sunday, and pick up rally-goers at stops in New London, New Haven and Fairfield.
Paul Brunner, who is also helping organize, said rally-goers are a diverse group.
“It’s a mix of all ages,” he said.
Lentakis said she hopes the rally will bring attention to the need for action on climate change.
“I hope it will bring the message home to the president and Congress,” she said. “I hope this will awaken everybody that the planet is suffering tremendously and encourage people to take action.”
