Groton - In recognition of National Autism Awareness Month in April, a forum, "Supporting Independence for Adults with Autism at Home and in the Workplace," will take place at 6:45 p.m. April 15 at the Groton Public Library.
Kassidy Brown and Laura Reed, co-directors of the LIVECTA Transition Programs, will serve as moderators. Speakers will be: Carol Barans, transition consultant at the Autism Services and Resources Center; Jennifer Bogin, director of the Autism Division of the state Department of Developmental Services; Andrew Feinstein, attorney for children with special needs; Kathleen Koenig of Yale University; State Sen. Andy Maynard, D-Stonington; and Eli Morton, student at Three Rivers Community College.
Sponsors of the event are the Lighthouse Vocational Education Center, the NAACP of New London County; and the Chamber of Commerce of southeastern Connecticut.
The following groups are also helping with the event: Ledge Light Health District; Naval Submarine Base in Groton; Groton Family Resource Center; the Connecticut Parent Resource Center; Groton Public Schools and the Groton Public Library.
