Preston — An out-of-control truck hit two men waiting for a taxi in the parking lot of Brookside Cafe early this morning, killing one of them, police said.
Police responded to the scene, at 143 Route 2A, at around 2 a.m.
Lakendrick Horn, 28, of York, Ala., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that Horn and Arnold Feaster, 48, of Gales Ferry were waiting for the taxi in the parking lot adjacent to the cafe when a truck driven by Juan Davila, of Griswold, crossed the westbound lane.
According to the police report, Davila, of 77 Rixtown Road, was driving eastbound in his Ford F250 when, while attempting to negotiate the turn in the roadway, crossed the westbound lane and hit two parked cars before hitting the two men.
Horn was "propelled across the parking lot" and fell down a 150-foot embankment into Poquetanuck Cove, police said.
Feaster was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital with minor injuries to his head and back.
The incident is still under investigation, and police are asking that anyone with information contact Trooper Bryan Fahey and Troop E in Montville at (860) 848-6500.
