Outer Island Workshop Coming on July 13

A "Discovery of Jellyfish" workshop will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Outer Island (pictured here), a Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge in Stony Creek. The hands-on event, sponsored by the Friends of Outer Island, will be led by Dr. Mary Beth Decker, Yale University research scientist. Learn about jellies of Long Island Sound, collect and view their structure up close, and enjoy jellyfish snacks. Register at events@friendsofouterisland.org">events@friendsofouterisland.org.

To reach the island, participants should take the water taxi leaving the Stony Creek dock at noon (details at www.thimbleislandsferry.com). Free ferry vouchers are available to registered participants; bring a picnic lunch and tour the island before or after the workshop. The workshop is limited to 25 participants, aged 6 and older. The Friends of Outer Island hopes to interest participants in joining its mission on Outer Island by becoming members.
