Branford’s Mike Olt has been traded from the Texas Rangers to the Chicago Cubs, the Rangers announced on July 22.

The Cubs sent right-handed pitcher Matt Garza to Texas in exchange for Olt, righty Justin Grimm, minor league pitcher CJ Edwards, and a player to be named later. Olt was hitting .213 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 65 games for Triple-A Round Rock this season. He will report to the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.

The 24-year old third baseman was a standout with the Branford Hornets and Connecticut Huskies who was selected by the Rangers with pick No. 49 in the first round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Olt then made his MLB debut last Aug. 1, when he singled in his first at-bat of a 15-9 win against the Los Angeles Angels. Olt ultimately had 33 at-bats and played in 16 games for Texas. He struggled early in this season for Round Rock, but has rebounded by hitting 10 home runs in his last 45 games.

Garza, 29, went 6-1 with a 3.17 ERA for the Cubs, are in fourth place in the National League Central at 43-53.
