Motorists on interstates 95 and 91 and Route 1 can expect overnight delays this weekend while traveling through Branford and New Haven as the state Department of Transportation (DOT) continues work on the Q Bridge and on the Amtrak bridge over Route 1.
Construction will result in a single open lane tomorrow night, Friday, July 26 through Monday, July 29 on I-95 south between exits 50 and 46 and at the I-91 connection to I-95 south. The work is expected to cause significant delays, the state DOT says.
I-95 will be reduced to a single lane starting at 10 p.m. on each of the three days, reopening to two lanes on July 27 and July 28 at 8 a.m. and on July 29 at 6 a.m. The I-91 connection to I-95 will be reduced to one lane starting at 10 p.m. on July 26 through 6 a.m. on July 29.
The DOT said the work is part of a series of traffic shifts as work progresses on the Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 interchange, and other projects.
Additionally in Branford, Route 1 will be closed to all traffic between Short Beach Road [Rte. 142] and the Exit 53 connector to I-95 from 9pm Saturday evening, July 27 until noon Sunday, July 28 as part of the Amtrak Bridge project. Detour signage will be in place before and during this time to reroute traffic.
