Keep up pressure to change poultry rules

We are grateful for your "Chickens, then the eggs" editorial that appeared Aug. 10 in support of our application to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a zoning text amendment to allow backyard chickens in Stonington.

CLUC*K sees access to food as the primary issue in this project. We appreciate your acknowledgment of a "powerful slow food movement" and a desire for "yard-fresh eggs as part of a healthy and local diet." We couldn't agree more.

Stonington residents now need three acres of land to legally keep two chickens. We propose up to six hens (no roosters) on residential lots that meet setback requirements for a coop and run.
