We are grateful for your "Chickens, then the eggs" editorial that appeared Aug. 10 in support of our application to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a zoning text amendment to allow backyard chickens in Stonington.
CLUC*K sees access to food as the primary issue in this project. We appreciate your acknowledgment of a "powerful slow food movement" and a desire for "yard-fresh eggs as part of a healthy and local diet." We couldn't agree more.
It would be an "extra-large" help if backyard-chicken aficionados could voice their support in emails to the planning commissioners, sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stonington residents now need three acres of land to legally keep two chickens. We propose up to six hens (no roosters) on residential lots that meet setback requirements for a coop and run.
