Man wanted in Willimantic arrested in New London

New London — U.S. Marshals arrested a man wanted for assaulting a baby girl in Willimantic following a foot chase on Friday.

Scottye Luis Valladares, 22, was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree strangulation. According to Willimantic police, Valladares was babysitting the girl who was less than one year old.

New London Police said they and U.S. Marshals apprehended Valladares Friday morning at Cedar Grove Cemetery after a foot chase. Police said he was heading to an address on 3rd Avenue.

Mercado said Willimantic police asked the U.S. Marshals’ office to become involved due to information Valladares was headed for Atlanta, Ga.

Valladares is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Danielson Superior Court. Police said he had been on the run since February.
