Ledyard woman arrested on forgery charges

Ledyard — A 27-year-old Ledyard woman is facing larceny and forgery charges for allegedly forging checks from a Shewville Road horse farm where she was employed.

Melissa Morrell of 57 South Road, No. 52, was arrested by warrant Thursday following investigation into a Jan. 16 complaint. Police allege Morrell stole $9,500. She is charged with three counts each of third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.

Police did not provide the name of the horse farm where the thefts allegedly occurred. Free on bond, Morrell is due to appear April 22 in New London Superior Court.
