North Stonington — Emergency personnel from Connecticut and Rhode Island searched for five hours Monday night to rescue three people driving without permission in a mud bog on Coal Pit Road.

Their Jeep Wrangler got stuck in the bog after driving off trail.

Troopers from Troop E, a K-9 from Troop D in Danielson, members of the North Stonington, Voluntown, Ashaway and Griswold fire departments searched, along with volunteers from the North Stonington Ambulance Association and a crew from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Emergency personnel used ATVs and a Hummer to locate the occupants in the forest.

Police did not disclose the names of the occupants of the Jeep. The case remains under investigation.
