Groton Public Schools Book Discussion Group
Thursday 7:00 pm to
The Groton Public Schools and Groton Public Library are pleased to announce a book discussion series for parents and community members featuring titles suggested by Groton educators. Whether it’s teaching with “poverty in mind,” developing a deeper understanding of the “boy adrift” or the “Cinderella girl,” or having the courageous conversation about why our “black kids sit together in the cafeteria,” these books will foster the productive exchanges that will help guide our choices as a school system and cultivate understanding.
The series begins at the Groton Public Library on Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m. with Schools Cannot Do It Alone by Jamie Vollmer. Vollmer’s book addresses threats to public education and describes a no cost plan that every district can use to secure the support it needs to unfold the full potential of every child. The discussion will be led by Sean McKenna, Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
A limited number of copies are available to be checked out at the Library. Attendees with a valid library card will also have the opportunity to borrow a Kindle loaded with the title. The Kindles were purchased with a grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut.
