Editor's Pick US Coast Guard Holiday Concerts

Sunday   to

the Coast Guard Band presents its annual holiday concerts celebrating the joy and musical traditions of the season. Assistant Director Chief Warrant Officer Richard E. Wyman leads an upbeat, family friendly matinee performance, followed by a more traditional evening program filled with your favorite carols and other holiday offerings conducted by Lieutenant Commander Adam Williamson.

Holiday favorites abound with light-hearted works by Percy Grainger, John Rutter, and Leroy Anderson. Steve Reisteter’s “Eighth Candle” celebrates the age old traditions of Hanukah and “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” highlights the wonder of the season. The playful concert includes music from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” an appearance by Santa Claus wielding a saxophone, and concludes with the joyous sounds of Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.”

Featuring Soprano Soloist, Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget, the evening program is full of popular carols and songs of the season. Tchaikovsky’s effervescent “Nutcracker Suite” is interspersed with carols to include “Oh Holy Night,” “Adeste Fideles,” “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” “Silver Bells,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and many more. The arrangements come from the Band’s talented arrangers Musicians 1st Class Robert Langslet and Sean Nelson and in case you felt left out, there is a “Sing Along” arranged by former Coast Guard Band Director, Lewis Buckley.

This event is free and open to the public.
