Education/Lectures
Thursday TIME: 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
A special program presented by historian and musician Rick Spencer,Songs from the War of 1812 provides insight into the causes and incidents of the conflict that pitted a rather young United States of America against her "mother country" and most bitter enemy, Great Britain. Recruiting songs, ballads, songs of the hardship of those whom the soldiers left behind, patriotic songs and songs which described major battles are all represented in this very entertaining and informative evening of history and music. A light reception will follow. The program is part of the Museum’s Museum’s annual Horace Beck Lecture series in honor of Beck’s research and dedication to the study of maritime history and folklore. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 860-767-8269.
