EMERSON THEATER HONORS WRITER
Emerson Theatre Collaborative presents a staged reading of the play “Zora Neale Hurston: In Her Own Words” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 23 Willow St., Mystic.
The one-woman show, written by Lisa Giordano, is directed by Theresa Broach and features actress Camilla Ross.
Hurston, best known for her novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” was an American writer who penned groundbreaking works about the culture and folk traditions of African Americans living in the south. Along with Langston Hughes, she was a central figure during the Harlem Renaissance.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at emersontheatercollaborative.org.
