The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer boating safety classes at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London. The one-day classes will be held on March 19, April 9, May 7 and June 4. Classes are taught by qualified U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members. All classes are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This eight-hour, beginner boating class and test qualifies a participant to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate, which everyone must obtain to legally operate most boats in Connecticut waters.
Course textbooks will be provided. Students should bring a lunch, pencil and pen. Those who successfully finish will receive a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certificate of Completion, which the state requires in order to issue the Safe Boating Certificate.
The cost is $65 for individuals, $55 for each additional family member taking the class at the same time and $40 for military members, who must show military identification to the class instructor.
