Editor's Pick Art Lecture with Professor Robert Baldwin

Art Lecture with Professor Robert Baldwin; Wednesday, July, 9, 2014

Wednesday  5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

The Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library presents a lecture by Professor Robert Baldwin of Connecticut College at 7 p.m. July 9. Building on the current contemporary fiction writer Donna Tartts success with her latest best seller, The Goldfinch, Baldwin will share with audiences the historical facts surrounding the famous work by Carel Fabritius along with two related Dutch paintings (Vermeer, Girl with the Pearl Earring, and an exotic still Life by Kalf) which touch on larger issues raised by the Goldfinch. His talk will explore the unique blend of humble, everyday subjects and high aestheticism in Dutch Baroque art.
The program is free. The library is located at 2 Library Lane, off Lyme Street and can be reached at (860) 434-1684.
