The Lyman Allyn Art Museum Presents Kitty Wales: Lionfish;

Art Exhibits/Openings

The Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams Street, New London, CT , 06320

Fascinated by the anatomy and movement of living creatures, Kitty Wales creates sculpture and installation art based on her direct observations of animals. She has traveled to the Scottish Hebrides to study wild goats, the Spanish Pyrenees to observe bearded vultures, and the Caribbean to document reef sharks in their underwater habitat. As part of a collaboration between the Lyman Allyn Art Museum and the Mystic Aquarium, Wales visited the Aquarium to observe their collection of marine life, taking photographs and preparing sketches that would later fuel her creations in the studio. Inspired by the textural, feathery forms of the lionfish, Wales then set to work envisioning a site-specific installation intended for the Lyman Allyn. Three larger-than-life lionfish sculptures constructed of welded steel, heavy paper, and recycled pencils will transform the gallery into a “deep-sea” environment for visitors of all ages.

Crossing the Connecticut River Exhibit;

Art Exhibits/Openings

Connecticut River Museum, 67 Main Street, Essex, CT , 06426

Can you get there from here? This old saying really means something when you consider getting across the mighty Connecticut without the bridges we have today! There are approximately 58 vehicle bridges currently spanning the Connecticut River and ten were chosen as representative examples for the Connecticut River Museum's 2013 exhibit 'Crossing the Connecticut: Bridges of the Connecticut River'. The exhibit features several different styles of bridge design and explores how people's ideas of what bridges should look like and how they reflect how their communities have changed over time. The exhibit features many objects and images from the Museum's collections as well as paintings, original toll signs, documents and other artifacts on loan from other institutions. Through October 20.

Patt Baldino & Del-Bourree Bach Exhibition;

Art Exhibits/Openings

Art Gallery at the Mill House , 5 West Main St., Chester, CT , 06412

Patt is a gifted artist whose award winning works have been widely exhibited throughout the US. Dramatic oil still life and cityscape paintings reflect her impressive technical skills and keen eye for composition. A pinpoint of light on a glass or the play of shadows in her rich palette invites us to explore her work in greater depth.
Del is known for his striking and almost tactile depictions of man and nature. Although many are inspired by the sea and the life in and around it, he enjoys painting many subjects from rural farms to western vistas to city sidewalks. His paintings invite viewers to enter into the scene and challenge them to create their own stories. Primarily a studio painter, he works mainly in acrylic, but occasionally enjoys transparent watercolor.
